In
1926 Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a Harvard graduate, a noted African American author and
scholar, established "Negro History Week". During the USA
bicentennial in 1976.
February was
established as "Black History Month.",
Nationally and Internationally. This
commemoration has increasingly been
referred to as "African American History Month."
This is a time when people from all
over the world can honor and join in the celebration of
the rich heritage of African Americans.
The
Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago will celebrate "African American Heritage
Month"
throughout the month of February. The Archdiocese
will host liturgies, performances and
educational programs that
honor the importance of preserving the African American history
and culture.
“When
you know your history, you know your greatness.“
This well-known African proverb
was one of many wonderful messages given to those who gather at Holy Name Cathedral
in celebration of "African American Heritage Month."
There will also be
African American Heritage Celebrations
throughout the city of Chicago the entire month.

The
Dove As a Christian symbol it was frequently used in ancient
ecclesiastical art. As a symbol of the Holy Spirit it appears
especially in representations of Our Lord symbolizing inspiration
or rather Divine guidance. (Matthew 3: 16)
Matthew 3: 16 “After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the
water and behold, the heavens were opened (for him), and he saw
the Spirit of God descending like a dove
(and) coming upon him”.
