WELCOME TO THE ALTAR SERVER'S   MINISTRY

Foundation Scripture:

Philippians 4:13
I can do  everything through
Christ who strengthens me.

Mission Statement: After receiving the sacraments of baptism and communion, it is time for children to take the next step in serving the church community.  As a member of the Altar Servers’ Ministry, you are recognized and looked upon as a special child who is dedicated to serving Christ.

Our Motto:   St. Ailbe Altar Servers: "We are here to Serve the Lord!"

Criteria to be an Altar Server

  1. Should be a registered member of St. Ailbe Church or School.

  2. Must be a baptized Catholic.

  3. Received the sacrament of Communion.

  4. Children in grades 3rd-8th.

  5. For those in grades 5th-8th and have not received the sacrament of Communion, child must be registered for Sunday School to receive sacrament in order to be scheduled to serve as an altar server.

Altar servers assist at weekend Masses, funerals and special
celebrations.
This ministry provides an opportunity for Catholic
youth to serve God and their parish family.  It allows them to
play an intricate role in the Mass itself. Students (Boys and Girls)
serve at Mass on a regular scheduled basis. Altar Servers
assist the priests and deacons, and set an example for all people
(especially the young) during our liturgies.. Among the tasks the servers perform are: lighting the candles, assisting with the gifts and carrying the processional
cross.

Expectations: Catholic Boys and Girls who have completed
fourth grade.

Meeting Time:
As scheduled. Will be announced.

“DO YOU KNOW HOW IMPORTANT YOU ARE”?
You are the closest to Father John and Deacon Bruce
You wear special garments.
You are the closest to hearing the Word of the Lord.
You carry sacred items into the church.
You touch the receptacles that wash the hands that bless and feed us
You lead the way in and out of the church.
You are recognized and looked upon as a special child of Christ.

We have come a long way in this Ministry!!!

Under the leadership of Ms. Chapman, the Altar Servers Ministry has made many changes to involve the children not only in the Mass, but to ensure that all servers, whether 7:00 Saturday service, or 8:00 and 11:00 Sunday services, feel like a family.  It has grown to 35 dedicated members!

In the fall of 2005, a new group within the ministry was formed to teach the older servers how to work with the new and younger servers.  When a child reach the 8th grade year and has served for 2 or more years, they become an 8th Grade Elder.  As an 8th Grade Elder, the server is a part of the leadership team within the ministry.

In the fall of 2006, another group was formed called the Senior Acolytes.  The Senior Acolytes are graduates of the ministry, who has a desire to continue with the ministry in which they have served for at least 4 years.  These teens are the Mass Directors for the services and their sole responsibility is to observe the servers and to critique them after Mass.  They also are involved in the leadership meetings to organize the trainings, outings and other events the ministry may be involved.

Both the Senior Acolytes and the 8th Grade Elders have been very responsible and dutiful in their work.  They may one day use these leadership skills to become ministry leaders in the future.

The Altar Servers get together for trainings at least twice a year.  They also get together for a yearly blessing and an end of the year outing to congratulate the 8th grade graduates and to thank the servers for all their hard work and dedication to the church.
